Incoming students
Study at San Rafael-Nebrija
San Rafael-Nebrija Health Sciences University Center, under the auspices of San Juan de Dios Foundation, is currently attached to Antonio de Nebrija University.
The building is a new construction (2011) and possesses all the high standard facilities of a modern university. Located in Madrid, within the San Rafael Hospital grounds, the Center continues the teaching tradition that has been carried out at the aforementioned hospital in the fields of Nursing and Physiotherapy over the past 50 years; a tradition which has gained the prestige and acclaim of its students for the quality of the training offered, both in technical and human aspects, preparing them to provide holistic healthcare.
San Rafael-Nebrija holds bilateral agreements with several European universities to promote mobility amongst students and lecturers. Every academic year we host international students from very different European countries who come to our institution to do a part of their clinical training with us.
Every year we receive visits of international lecturers interested in get a deeper insight of Nursing and Physiotherapy professions in Spain. They share with students and lecturers their areas of expertise by taking an active role in talks, presentations and meetings. They visit placement centers and enjoy the opportunity of having direct contact with healthcare professionals.

Within the town of Madrid, our privileged location near the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, very close to Nuevos Ministerios station, endows our Center with excellent public transport connection by subway, bus or train.
Level of Spanish required:
- B1 (Intermediate) required to do clinical placements at placement centers.
- B2 (Upper Intermediate) required to take classes taught in Spanish.
Nebrija University offers Spanish Language and Culture courses to international students to enhance their level of Spanish (for an additional fee).

Option 1 Clinical Placement Experience*
International students who choose to do a clinical placement experience have to complete an agreed number of clinical placement hours, which include:
- Supervised clinical placements at different placement sites (public hospitals or private clinics) located all around the metropolitan area of the city of Madrid.
- Nursing students: 35 placement hours/week (7 hours/day of clinical placement, from Monday to Friday) + autonomous work hours.
- Physiotherapy students: 20 hours/week (4 hours/day of clinical placement, from Monday to Friday) + autonomous work hours.
- Autonomous work of the student (defined by our Placement Coordinators once the student arrives). Tasks are similar than the ones our students usually do. Written tasks must be in Spanish.
Total number of hours (clinical placement+ autonomous work) are arranged between International Coordinators (home university and San Rafael-Nebrija) before the international student' arrival.
Option 2. Theoretical courses*
International students who want to enroll theoretical courses have to spend in Madrid at least 17 weeks, as they have to:
- Attend lessons during the whole semester period (15 weeks).
- Taking official exams (exam period starts usually 1-2 weeks after finishing the semester).

Application procedure
If you wish to enjoy an Erasmus experience in Nursing or Physiotherapy fields at San Rafael-Nebrija, please follow these steps:
- Do contact your international coordinator at your home university so that he/she can send us your candidature. Please note that spontaneous candidatures from students will not be considered.
- Once we receive your nomination, it will be studied and, if accepted, you will be informed by email and ask to complete the application documents.

- Valid passport (PDF file).
- Passport-sized photo (jpg file).
- Medical insurance valid in Spain (International Health card is OK).
- First semester (autumn): from September to January.
- Second semester (spring): from February to June.
International students can enjoy their Erasmus+ experience at San Rafael-Nebrija during the first or second semester.
- Erasmus+ experience at our institution starts with a Welcome Session we organize for international students, which includes:
- Informal meeting with our International Coordinator and our Placement Coordinator (Nursing or Physiotherapy).
- General information session (clinical placement plan, attendance and assessment documents, Erasmus documents, information about the autonomous work, etc.).
- Tour around the facilities of the University Center.
This welcome session always takes place at San Rafael-Nebrija Health Sciences Center (located at Paseo De La Habana Street, 70bis). Once International students´ nominations are accepted and clinical placement plans are organized, students will receive an email where date and hour of the welcome session is included.
International students need to bring with them a white uniform: white shirt, white long trousers and white shoes (any kind). There is no need to buy our institutional uniform, as long as the one they use is completely white.
Wearing uniform is mandatory from the first day of the clinical placement period.
International students have access to all activities and general services (libraries, computer labs, sports facilities, etc.) and all extra-curricular activities as well.

All international students are required to have medical insurance to cover them in case of accident and/or illness during their stay in Spain.
Students from the European Union need the European Health Insurance Card in order to be covered by the Spanish health system.
Non-European Union students will need private health coverage.
